Reducing Rain Noise on Your Shutters

Reducing Rain Noise on Your Shutters

Avoiding noise pollution with Bricomachin

Who hasn't installed roller shutters and gone crazy when there's heavy rain? The sound insulation of the shutter is not great... With Bricomachin, we're going to try to easily reduce the impact noises by putting a small sound insulator on the shutter, which will help to somewhat soundproof your shutter resulting in a reduction of vibrations and loud noises. We can regain a "normal" sound level during heavy rain.

The idea is relatively simple, by adding a layer of thin insulation (rubber type), there will be a reduction in noise. We are specifically talking about impact noises caused by rain, hail, etc., and not airborne noises that might come from roller shutters if they are poorly installed.

Diminishing or eradicating rain noise on the casings of exterior roller shutters

You installed metal roller shutters in the summer and as the months go by, and you are in the rainy season, you have noticed that some rains are quite strong and resonate loudly on the casings of your shutters, and you wish to eliminate this noise. It often happens that shutter manufacturers do nothing about this problem, which has been known for decades.

This problem prevents you from sleeping at night during heavy rain? It becomes very annoying and you start to lose patience. If you have a simple flow VMC with window ventilation + roller shutter applied or lintel-mounted, you hit the jackpot. Very little sound insulation and a lot of noise during heavy rain! But we have the solution, don't worry!

Solutions proposed by Bricomachin

You are therefore looking for a material that is UV resistant, rot-proof, discreet, smooth, and resistant to all conditions.

  1. Use an outdoor rubber strip several mm thick. The advantage of the rubber strip is that there are several colors available on the market. You cut the rubber strip to the dimensions of your roller shutters and glue this strip. If you cannot find rubber in the color of your choice, it is always possible to paint the rubber with "special rubber" paint.
  2. Use a tarred sheet. This is the most "effective" technique, but also the least aesthetic. Simply cut this tarred sheet to the dimensions of your roller shutters. Of course, you can then apply a UV-resistant paint so that this strip looks more like the color of your shutters. It becomes almost invisible.
  3. Use rigid exterior foam to the dimensions of your roller shutters. Rigid foam is also available in several colors.
  4. Purchase an anti-noise coating specially designed to provide acoustics against rain and hail noise. This coating is often available for roofs. You can use it in a diverted way for your shutters! Make sure this foam is weather-resistant: rain and sun, but generally, the foams withstand the test of time well.
